US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT – AUGUST 31, 2026
August 31, 2026   Dave Lewis

PERFORMANCE DECLINES SLIGHTLY IN MOST CATEGORIES.

The Postal Service continued to show subpar performance in most categories except for Marketing Mail letters. First-Class letters were on time just under 80% of the time. USPS continues to struggle with flats – only 60% of First-Class flats were delivered on time, over 15% were more than five days late.

Flats originating in Illinois were the slowest performers for both First-Class and Marketing Mail. Most delays seemed related to transportation – mail dropped and delivered within the same SCF performed much better, a reward for drop shipping.

The political mail season is upon us now, and a lot of political mail is flat size. Be sure to allow enough time for delivery.
