FIRST-CLASS FLATS A BIT SLOW, BUT PERFORMANCE OTHERWISE CONSISTENT
A typical summer week for delivery performance, coming off a much stronger week buoyed by a holiday. FC flats continued to perform below YTD averages, not a great sign. Otherwise, unremarkable. No obvious trends showing.
Summer is a low-volume period for the Postal Service.
The states with the lowest on-time percentages for flats were:
New Hampshire — 45.7% on time (5.78 days)
Georgia — 62.8% on time (6.6 days)
Wyoming — 68.6% on time (6.35 days)
Missouri — 78.9% on time (4.03 days)
Most of the rest hover in the 80 – 95% range.
The best?
Montana — 98.6% on time (2.37 days)
Arizona — 98.4% on time (2.17 days)
California — 98.0% on time (2.83 days)
Delaware — 97.9% on time (2.49 days)
Kansas — 97.9% on time (2.14 days)
These rankings are for all flats – Marketing Mail and First-Class mixed together with a much larger number of Marketing Mail pieces.
What drives these differences? Not geography, I don’t think – Montana is a pretty big state, as is California. Management?
