FIRST-CLASS FLATS BRING DOWN AN OTHERWISE PRETTY GOOD WEEK
On-time performance continued to beat last week’s and last year’s numbers with the notable exception of First-Class Flats, which are now performing worse that last year. They remain the most unpredictable kind of mail. If you are not forced to mail First-Class flats, you should avoid them.
First-Class flats often contain very high-value mail – multi-page statements for high-dollar accounts. Not technically a competitive product, but on the highest value accounts, USPS is creating an opportunity for its pricier competitors.
