A BAD WEEK FOR FLATS…AND OTHER MAIL
Frankly, the performance is so bad this week it may be the fault of bad weather a few weeks ago. Maybe mail that was stuck in an igloo, or wherever the mail gets stuck in the Midwest, finally got delivered.
Performance was bad across almost all categories, except for Marketing Mail letters, bless their hearts. Even the Central Area managed to deliver most of those on time. First-Class letters? Not so much.
I have no idea what is going on with flats, and apparently neither does the Postal Service. They remain inconsistent and slow. Barely half of First-Class flats were delivered on time, and that is generally high-value mail. That which was late was very late. Marketing Mail flats had their second-worst week of the year. St Louis stood out as a bad performer, with Minnesota and Michigan close behind.
YTD averages still look decent and better than last year. One bad week isn’t enough to kill the average.
