USPS SHAKES OFF THE SNOW AND GETS BACK IN GOOD FORM
After the difficult delivery results in our last report, USPS was back in good form last week, with improvements in every service category we measure. Most heartening were the days in transit, which beat every YTD category.
Delivery performance was also better than the same period last year, so the USPS narrative on improving service performance holds true. As to why performance is better remains a bit of a mystery. In a measure of service performance by Tom Day, a PRC Commissioner, those districts that had not yet been updated with DFA “improvements” outperformed those that had.
If you go back to our traffic reports from 2022 (which you can find on the SnailWorks blog), you will see that today’s performance doesn’t come close to what it was back then, when DFA was just being introduced. Still, it’s the direction we are looking for, and in the last eight months, the Postal Service appears to be heading in the right direction.
